Every Parent Deserves Support

Caring for a child with special needs can be deeply rewarding, but it also requires an extraordinary amount of time, energy, and dedication. At Kids On The Move, we understand that caregivers need moments to recharge, and that’s why we offer Respite Care—a lifeline for families who could use a break, even if just for a few hours.

Rest. Recharge. Come Back Stronger

Respite Care provides temporary care for children with special needs, giving their usual caregivers a much-needed pause to rest, recharge, and reset. Whether it’s for a few hours on the weekend or a scheduled appointment during the week, our team of dedicated caregivers steps in to provide compassionate, expert care while parents take a break.

Respite Care Designed With Your Child in Mind

Our respite care program offers families the chance to relieve stress, restore balance, and come back feeling renewed—ready to provide the best care for their child. Parents often juggle multiple responsibilities, and having time away can be crucial for their well-being. With our respite care, caregivers can take a well-deserved break to run errands, attend appointments, or simply enjoy some personal time to recharge. This program allows them to focus on self-care, pursue hobbies, or spend quality time with other family members, knowing their child is in a safe, nurturing environment. By utilizing respite care, parents can prevent burnout, maintain their mental health, and ultimately enhance the overall quality of care they provide to their children.

Weekend Care

We offer three-hour weekend night sessions for children with special needs, so caregivers can enjoy a well-deserved evening off.

Weekday Care (By Appointment)

Need care during the week? We also offer flexible, fee-based weekday services tailored to your schedule.

At KOTM

We Steadfastly Believe in Parent Empowerment

For families of children with special needs, finding time to recharge is not just a luxury—it’s essential. Respite Care provides:

Peace of Mind

Rest assured knowing your child is in a safe, nurturing environment with trained caregivers who understand their needs.

Stress Relief

Regular breaks from caregiving help reduce stress and prevent burnout, improving both physical and emotional well-being.

Better Care

By taking care of themselves, caregivers are better equipped to provide quality care for their children.

If you provide care for a child with special needs, it’s okay to take care of yourself, too.

Volunteer with Us

At Kids On The Move, our Respite Program depends on the generosity of volunteers. With your help, we can expand our respite hours and provide more families with the support they need.

As a volunteer, you’ll get to make a difference in the lives of children with special needs and their families by:

  • Engaging with kids through fun activities: Play games, read stories, and help provide a safe, joyful space for kids while their caregivers take a break.
  • Making an immediate impact: Each hour you volunteer directly helps a family in need. A few hours of your time can give parents the gift of rest.
  • High School Students: Looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community? We welcome high school clubs to partner with us through fundraising and volunteer efforts. You can make a real difference in the lives of families and earn community service hours along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Respite care offers temporary relief to primary caregivers, providing short-term, professional care for children with special needs.

Our caregivers are trained and screened volunteers overseen by both a nurse and a KOTM staff member experienced in handling the specific needs of children with disabilities and delays.

Our evening program is free to families and funded through generous donations.

Because we have a waiting list, we currently offer one night per month to each family. There is an on-call list for families waiting for services.

For toileting needs, we have children of all ages who are completely dependent and need diaper changes. We also have children who are completely independent. When a child requires a diaper change or needs to use the restroom independently, two people are always present—a member of our staff and a volunteer. Children are allowed their privacy based on their ability to use the restroom.

Our program is limited to children with behavioral or physical disabilities.
