Kids On The Move parenting classes are available to the general public, if there is space available. There is often a small fee included. Please see the calendar for dates and times of classes. Free childcare is available, but space is limited so you must reserve a spot by calling our front desk at 801.221.9930 Ext. 100.
Great Beginnings – FREE
This parent class meets once a week (1 1/2 hours) for 2 weeks. Parents learn about their child’s communication, hearing, and language development. Class also includes training in basic strategies to promote language development and how to work these strategies into daily routines at home. We offer this class every other month. Infant Massage – FREE
A one-time class (1 1/2 hours) taught by a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI). Parents bring baby with them as they learn and practice massage techniques and sequences established by Loving Touch Foundation. Infant massage cultivates love, compassion, respect and well-being for infants and children through touch.
Music and Movement Storytime – FREE
This parent-toddler class meets once a week (45 minutes) at designated local libraries. Books, instruments, exploration, songs, finger plays and dances will encourage the development of skills such as imitation, vocalizing, self & peer awareness and much more. The class is designed for children ages 18 months to 3 years and their parents. There is no registration required, but if you have questions email Jessica: firstname.lastname@example.org
Step Families – FREE
This class meets once a week (2 ½ hours) for 6 weeks. This class is for remarried, dating, cohabitating couples and singles with children. Participants of the class discuss issues unique to stepfamily relationships. Concurrent classes for youth 6-18 are available. Free childcare for children 5 and under and FREE dinner is included.
Sibshops – $5 per child
This recreational workshop is for typically developing children ages 7-13 who have a sibling with special needs. They enjoy a spirited mix of fun games, making new friends, discussion/education activities and lunch. They share the joys and frustrations of having a sibling with special needs. Sibshops are held monthly at Kids On The Move on the second Saturday of each month from 10:00-12:30, lunch included. SOS Feeding – $10 per class
This parent class meets once a week (1 hour) 8-12 week course depending on the semester. This parent class focuses on establishing positive experiences with food. Children learn to add new foods to their diets and acquire skills for accepting new textures and flavors. Parents learn techniques for helping their children enjoy the mealtime experience.
Parent University – FREE
This parent class meets once a month on the first Wednesday at 6:30 pm. Parent University is a series of courses designed to assist parents and caregivers living with kids diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders or similar developmental delays. The classes have been created by experienced professionals in their respective fields.
