Autism Center

Our Autism Center is designed specifically for parents and children with autism spectrum disorder from infancy through adolescence. We offer Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, an empirically supported treatment for autism spectrum disorder. Kids On The Move believes clients learn best when ABA therapy is presented with a fun, gentle, trauma-informed approach, focused on client assent, choice, and compassion.

Our qualified team of Board Certified Behavior Analysts and Registered Behavior Technicians work together to create and provide high-quality, effective therapy to each client. Clients in our Autism Center learn skills chosen specifically for them, such as communication and language, play and social skills, daily living skills, and safe alternatives to challenging behaviors. At Kids On The Move, we celebrate the uniqueness of each child and provide individualized, client-centered therapy focused on each child’s strengths.

We recognize the impact a diagnosis of ASD has on the entire family and offer support to strengthen each family’s unique circumstances through a variety of services.

ABA Therapy

All interventions used in the Autism Center fall under the umbrella of applied behavior analysis (ABA). ABA therapy has been used for the treatment of autism since the 1960’s and is recognized as effective treatment for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by the U.S. Surgeon General, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the National Institute of Health. All ABA services at Kids On The Move are individualized for each client and developed and supervised by Board Certified Behavior Analysts.

ABA therapy works to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning. ABA therapies include Discrete Trial Training, Natural Environment Training, Verbal behavior techniques, and more. ABA therapy can increase skills across many domains such as language, communication, attention, social skills, and daily living skills, as well as decrease problem behaviors.

ABA therapy can look different depending on the learner. It often involved a lot of play and a focus on increasing language skills. It can also include working at a table, using token boards, and earning rewards. For some children it may look like practicing daily living skills like preparing a meal, using a fork, potty training, or contributing to the home by doing chores or following a routine. Our treatments are individualized for each child based on their unique strengths and challenges.

Most insurance companies have coverage for ABA therapy and KOTM accepts all major insurances and Medicaid. We also offer self-pay pricing.

Assessment

One of our first steps in designing effective treatment for your child involves an assessment. An assessment for treatment is different from a diagnostic assessment or psychological evaluation. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will get to know you and your child through a variety of ways, including interviews, observations, skill assessments and questionnaires. All of these items help your child’s BCBA better understand your child’s strengths and challenges and help guide the course of treatment.

Telehealth Services

Telehealth services are the delivery of ABA therapy to rural communities where there would otherwise be no behavioral healthcare providers to work with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Our BCBAs (Board Certified Behavioral Analysts) have masters’ level experience and knowledge in training caregivers and working with children.

We believe that all families should have access to the best care for their children. Thanks to our online delivery system, we are able to offer the benefits of ABA therapy to families who otherwise do not have access to ABA services in their area. Financial Resources for Families

Even with insurance coverage, we understand that ABA therapy can be expensive.  The following grants are not affiliated with Kids On The Move but may be a resource for families in covering the cost of ABA therapy.

Active Grants That Can Apply Towards Co-insurance and Co-pays

Modest Needs – $750-$1,250

  • This grant is tailored to individuals and families living just above the poverty line but are ineligible for most types of social assistance
  • One-time assistance
  • Grant can be applied towards co-insurance and co-pays

MyGOAL Inc – $1,000

  • This grant is offered in December every year and distributed the following Spring
  • Upload W-9 or recent tax return
  • Can be applied to co-insurance and co-pays

United Healthcare Children’s Foundation – Up to $5000 in one year. Can reapply each year and receive up to $10,000 as a lifetime maximum

  • 16 years old or younger
  • Must have SSN
  • Family must not exceed maximum eligible family income as documented on IRS Tax Form 1040
  • Primary coverage for the child must be by a commercial health plan. Secondary insurance through Medicaid or CHIP is permissible

Varghese Summersett PLLC Annual Scholarships – $500 Submit all materials to Melody Lanier at melody@versustexas.com

  • 15 years old or younger
  • Autism Diagnosis
  • Must submit letter or video stating how the scholarship will benefit them.

Additional Grant Options

Firsthand Foundation – $1250-$2500

  • 18 years or younger (age 19-21 considered if child-like mental state)
  • No existing insurance coverage for requested expenses
  • Household income: Dependents
    • 5 – Up to $100k
    • 4 – Up to $85k
    • 3 – Up to $70k
    • 2 – Up to $55k
    • 1 – Up to $40k
  • Can be used to assist with stand of car for child’s diagnosis
  • Cannot pay co-insurance, co-pays, past bills, or debts

KNOW Autism – Tuition and Therapy Assistance Program – $1000-$3000

  • 18 months – 18 years old
  • For families in need of financial assistance
  • Must be medically diagnosed with ASD
  • Must be attending a special needs school or program – ABA therapy, special needs camp, special needs school, speech or occupational therapy
  • CANNOT be applied to coinsurance and copays, only towards the facility

KNOW Autism – Autism Diagnostic Assistance Program – $500-$750

  • This scholarship is specifically for DIAGNOSTIC TESTING fees, for testing an individual for ASD
  • 18 months – 10 years old

KNOW Autism – Special Interest Fund

  • This fund is specifically for adaptive programs outside the traditional umbrella of autism treatments (not ABA)
  • Between 12 months and 18 years
  • Eligible programs:
    • Equine therapy, special needs camps/summer programs, adaptive sports, adaptive dance, adaptive swim lessons, etc.
  • Must provide ASD diagnosis
  • CANNOT be applied to coinsurance and copays, only towards the facility

ASDF’s Holiday Gift Card Program (Check back Oct 1st, 2020 for open application) – $100 Gift Card

  • For families with great need for financial assistance who have individuals in the family on the spectrum

  • Why choose our Autism Center?

    Our Autism Center offers evidence-based treatment individualized to each child’s needs. These services include supervision of your child’s case by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or an Behavior Consultant. All ABA tutors are certified as Registered Behavior Technicians through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, and training is a top priority to help us provide the best therapy for your child.

  • Does my child need an official autism diagnosis to enroll at the Autism Center?

    No, an official diagnosis is not needed to enroll. However, most insurance companies require an official autism diagnosis in order to provide insurance coverage for ABA.

  • How much does ABA cost?

    Please call us at (801) 221-9930 for a quote on the cost of services and to see if your insurance company will cover part of the cost.

  • Does insurance cover ABA?

    Many insurance companies provide ABA therapy as a medical benefit with the proper documentation and diagnosis. We are credentialed with all local and major national insurance companies.

  • Can ABA Therapy really help?

    Yes! ABA therapy has decades of research supporting its effectiveness to teach skills to individuals with autism. ABA is and is recognized as effective treatment for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by the U.S. Surgeon General, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the National Institute of Health.

  • Does the Autism Center offer in-home services?

    Yes! Most of our clients receive therapy in their homes! We love to work with parents and siblings to provide a holistic approach to ABA therapy. In addition to our clinic-based services, parents have the option for a therapist to implement ABA in a home-based setting. Parents may also request a home or community visit to target specific situations of concern, such as grocery store visits, potty training, educational supports, feeding therapy, and more.
