Building Strong Foundations:
Child-Led Learning for infants- 7 years.

At Kids on the Move, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive in a supportive, inclusive environment. Our Preschool and Child Care Program has been nurturing young minds for over 20 years, offering specialized care and education for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and pre-k children, including those with developmental delays and special needs.

Traditional Learning Methods Can Hold Your Child Back

Most childcare centers rely on teacher-directed methods, leaving little room for your child’s unique interests to guide their learning.

Parents are often concerned that traditional, one-size-fits-all teaching methods don’t cater to their child’s specific needs or curiosity, potentially stifling creativity and development.

A Unique, Child-Led Approach to Learning.

At Kids on the Move, we recognize that children learn best when they explore what excites them. Our dedicated teachers observe and guide your child through individualized learning experiences based on their interests. Whether they’re curious about the natural world in our outdoor nature classroom or engaged in creative play, your child’s development is at the heart of everything we do. Child-led learning offers numerous advantages for young children. By providing a supportive and nurturing environment that encourages exploration and discovery, we can help children develop a strong foundation for future success.

Increased Motivation

Children are more engaged and motivated when they have a sense of control over their learning.

Enhanced Creativity

Child-led learning encourages children to explore their imaginations and develop creative problem-solving skills.

Social and Emotional Development

Children learn to interact with peers, share, and cooperate in a child-led environment.

Stronger Critical Thinking Skills

Children develop the ability to analyze information, make decisions, and evaluate their own learning.

Lifelong Love of Learning

By fostering a positive association with learning, child-led approaches can cultivate a lifelong passion for education.

Tailored Education

Children learn at their own pace and can focus on areas that interest them most.

Increased Confidence

Children develop self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment as they take ownership of their learning.

Better Preparation for School

Children who have experienced child-led learning are often better prepared for the structured academic environment of kindergarten.

Stronger Foundation for Future Success

Child-led learning can help children develop essential skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

With our inclusive and nurturing approach, your child will build confidence, develop essential skills, and enjoy learning at their own pace. By fostering a love for exploration and discovery, we help your child lay a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning.

When you apply, you will be automatically placed on the waiting list, and we will contact you when an opening becomes available.

The 3-year-old class can have up to four non-trained children at a time. The 4–6-year-olds must be potty-trained.

You will pay full-time unless your child is in a morning or afternoon 4–6-year-old preschool class. The cost does not decrease if a child is absent.

We teach and model positive discipline and behavior management. No corporal punishment is allowed. We believe in ‘connection rather than correction.’ Teachers build relationships with the children, so less discipline is necessary. We have found that many behavior problems disappear when we keep the child engaged in an enriched environment. If your child’s caregiver is concerned about your child’s behavior, they will talk with you to develop a plan for resolution.

Yes. Kids on the Move has an open-door policy, and we encourage parents to visit or volunteer in the classroom. However, we caution parents that it is difficult for a child when a parent comes and then leaves without taking the child with them. Emotionally, it is better to keep visits short and infrequent so the child can adjust and learn they are safe.  It is an important step in the child gaining a sense of age-appropriate independence.

Yes. Parents with access to a DWS childcare subsidy can coordinate with the childcare director to use these funds to pay for childcare services.

It is the policy of KOTM to accept children without discriminating against race, sex, religion, disability, or national origin. KOTM works to accommodate children with disabilities as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Parents who feel their child needs accommodations under this law should speak with the childcare director. A childcare program may, under certain legal circumstances, be unable to provide care to a child with a disability.  These reasons include, if accommodating the child’s special needs, imposes an undue burden on the provider, if accommodating the child’s special needs fundamentally alters the nature of the program or facility, or if there are no reasonable, readily achievable alternatives available.
Our staff understands it is difficult for working parents when their child is sick. However, we need to maintain the health and well-being of all children and staff. We will either not accept a child or call the parent to come pick up their child in these cases:

  • If a child has a fever of 100 degrees or higher
  • If a child has a sore throat
  • If a child vomits
  • If a child has diarrhea twice in an hour
  • If a child has an unexplained rash, suspected pink eye, or any other contagious illness
  • If a child is extremely irritable or lethargic
