New Book on the Move Helping Kids with Disabilities

Posted October 7, 2024

SALT LAKE CITY (Good Things Utah) – For over 40 years, ‘Kids on the Move’ has changed the lives of children with disabilities for the better. CEO Rachelle Rutherford brings her groundbreaking new book to the show the day before it launches October 1st, 2024.

Rutherford is the author of ‘Chasing the Impossible.’ She says it is a deeply personal and inspiring account of Kids On The Move, a groundbreaking non-profit dedicated to children with developmental delays and disabilities. Rachelle Rutherford, the organization’s CEO, shares the heart-wrenching challenges faced by families navigating a system often ill-equipped to support their children. With raw honesty, she reveals the isolation and stress families endure. Yet, admits adversity, she illuminates the power of hope and determination. More than a story of success, Chasing The Impossible is a call to action. Rutherford inspires readers to join a future where every child, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to thrive.

Why Rachelle wrote the book Rachelle Rutherford felt deeply moved to share the remarkable journeys of families touched by Kids On The Move’s programs. Chasing the Impossible emerged from this calling, evolving into a story of connectedness, belonging, and inclusivity. Through this book, she highlights the collective effort of communities to bring about meaningful change. When interviewing these families, Rachelle asked tough, honest questions about raising children with disabilities—the lack of resources, the unmet needs, and their daily challenges. This heartfelt exploration led to the creation of the Hope In Motion initiative. At Kids On The Move, the goal is simple yet powerful: to push beyond boundaries and strive for a future where every child, regardless of diagnosis, can access the full range of care, education, and support needed to thrive. Hope In Motion is a bold vision to establish a one-stop, state-of-the-art campus and Center of Excellence that provides children with coordinated, personalized care by bringing doctors, therapists, educators, and specialists together. By eliminating fragmented services, this comprehensive approach ensures families feel empowered, and children receive the unified support they deserve. But the work doesn’t stop there. Hope In Motion aims to innovate—developing new programs and services that bridge gaps in care, making it easier for caregivers, parents, and communities to provide the necessary support. This isn’t just a mission; it’s a movement. Together, we can chase the impossible and create a future where every child has the opportunity to flourish. Rachelle’s book serves as a call to action, inviting us all to be part of this transformation.

Hope In Motion Initiative KOTM would like to create a first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art campus and Center of Excellence for parents with children with development delays or in need of special needs to go to get all the resources and care they need in one place, from early intervention, education, childcare, or therapies and a Family Support Services that takes the time and pressure of parents to communicate with all the professionals and care needs for their children.
